I’m Bianca, a Mexican-American artist–designer and educator from Detroit and Los Angeles. My practice involves working in a transdisciplinary manner to re-interpret colonial histories and marginalized identity through investigations on digitization and language. In tandem, I design books, exhibition identities, and websites with collaborators in the social, arts, and culture sectors.
As an educator, I am actively developing decolonial pedagogical frameworks that center transformative learning as a way towards collective liberation.

Class website and archive for Introduction to Graphic Design, taught at Yale this past fall semester.
The site is populated by an are.na channel.
On the tangible side, here is a class publication containing student work that explores color relativity through subtractive and additive color processes (a'la Albers). We took a visit to Haas Special Collections to view the Interaction of Color--and expanded on Albers' assignments to incorporate screens (RGB) and printers (CMYK) in addition to cut-paper. While at Haas we also viewed the Munsell color wheel, and Pantone swatch books.
The book was distributed to students in the course but is also aimed at being a teaching tool for faculty looking to incorporate Albers into their courses. Please write to me if you'd like a copy!

Made with a custom program I wrote in Python. It's a fairly simple set of instructions that tells the computer how to modify an image and stitch it back together into a gif.

Recent video work for the wonderful José Ibarra and his amazing project Table Manners over at the University of Colorado Denver Department of Architecture and Planning. Videos 2 and 3 were made collaboratively with Jessica Flemming––I drove to her apartment in New York with my camera, tripod, greenscreen (poster), and a grocery bag full of disposable plateware which we used for filming multiple stop-motion vignettes.

Looking forward to sharing a new video i've been working on. I also wanted to express my gratitude to Olivia Alonso Gough, the brilliant curator and person who invited me to participate.
